Cycos Defends Top Position in Unified Messaging Market

Press release: Cycos Defends Top Position in Unified Messaging Market

Alsdorf, Germany, August 6, 2009German enterprise communications software vendor Cycos AG leads the Western European market for Unified Messaging solutions. That is the result of a study by market research company MZA Ltd, which specializes in the IT and telecommunications industry (The Western European UC Applications Market Competitive Environment – 2009 Edition). For the fourth time in succession, the British analysts have ranked Cycos No. 1, ahead of Cisco and Avaya. With a market share 21 percent of total user licenses in 2008, Cycos even could extend its advance (2007: 17 percent).

With its flagship product mrs Vanguard, Cycos offers a Unified Communications solution with a uniquely modular approach: The core application of the software suite is Advanced Unified Messaging, integrating email, fax, voice messages, SMS on a single, easy-to-operate user interface. With additional modules the system covers a broad range of enterprise communications features such as voice and web conferencing, mobility, contact centre, call and message routing and interactive voice response. Each communication application can be licensed separately, in line with employees’ individual needs. The modular structure provides high flexibility when it comes to implementing new functions whenever they are required in the future. This way, the software suite can be extended incrementally to a full-blown Unified Communications (UC) solution.

Heidi Ganser-Muhs, Director Corporate Marketing & Portfolio Strategy at Cycos, offers an explanation for the market success: “Many companies prefer a step-by-step approach when it comes to UC implementation, so modular solutions are well-positioned. Building UC incrementally around Unified Messaging as a core application helps them to leverages existing IT and telecommunications investments and to create acceptance among users.”

“In 2008, Cycos was able to defend its Unified Messaging market leadership, extending its market share by four percent compared to the previous year,” said Peter Hale, Senior Analyst, from MZA. “Cycos led Western Europe’s largest market, Germany, and was in second position in the French market along with being active in a number of other European countries”.

Unified Messaging
Unified Messaging (UM) is a procedure for bundling all incoming and outgoing messages (e.g. voicemail, e-mail, fax, SMS, MMS) and for giving users clear, standardized menus for convenient access by PC, laptop, fixed network and mobile telephone. Since just one user interface is needed for all message channels, users save a lot of time and no longer overlook important or urgent messages. What is more, messages can be better organized and stored. To optimize the workflow, UM solutions can be integrated into CRM and ERP systems as well as groupware systems. UM is nowadays regarded as part of Unified Communications (UC). UC integrates both asynchronous media (messages) and synchronous ones (real-time communication such as telephony and instant messaging). UC solutions additionally offer presence information, conferencing and collaboration functions.
